This is a Senior Executive (SES) position to serve as the principal advisor to the Chief Privacy Officer on all privacy and program matters for the DHS privacy community.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe Deputy Chief Privacy Officer is responsible to ensure that the goals and responsibilities of the Chief Privacy Officer and the Privacy Office are met by:* Advising the Chief Privacy Officer n department-wide privacy policies and program objectives that pertain to the implementation of the requirements of Section 222 of the Homeland Security Act, as amended, the Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, the E-Government Act of 2002, and the Recommendations of the 911 Commission Act of 2007.* Coordinating with the Deputy Chief Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer to ensure mission effectiveness by managing PRIV's resources to provide strategic advice and counsel to the Chief Privacy Officer/Chief FOIA Officer on the office functions and activities, including human resources management and budget.* Coordinating with component privacy officers and privacy points of contact throughout the department to ensure compliance with changes in laws, regulations, policies and procedures; furnishing leadership and guidance to privacy officers and privacy points of contact; and resolving problems requiring interpretation and application of privacy policy and complex phases of the law regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal and departmental information, including information sharing initiatives for homeland security and the development of protocols for responsible information sharing and information management policies.* Assisting the Chief Privacy Officer, in coordination with the Office of the General Counsel, in the formulation of legislative, regulatory and administration policies effecting the privacy mission, and researching, developing and providing strategic plans, as well as short-term strategies.* Resolving complex problems requiring expert interpretation and application of privacy laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; and coordinating the development of final policies and procedures.* Providing technical and administrative supervision to the Privacy Division's Senior Directors and other executive and management staff to plan work and set and adjust short-term and long-term strategic priorities; communicating program objectives, priorities, and progress, and identifying and responding to potential concerns of external stakeholders.* Representing the Chief Privacy Officer and the Department as a principal and inter-agency meeting, international governmental meetings, at national and international public conference and maintains liaison and communication for the Privacy Office with counterparts at other Federal, State and local departments and agencies.Travel RequiredOccasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.Supervisory statusYesPromotion Potential00* Job family (Series)0301 Miscellaneous Administration And ProgramSimilar jobs* Executive Secretaries* Office Secretaries* Secretaries, Executive* Secretaries, Office* RequirementsHelpRequirementsConditions of Employment* You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.* Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.* You may be required to undergo periodic drug testing.* You must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.* Selectee will be required to complete form OGE-278, Executive Personnel Financial Disclosure Form.* You will serve a one-year probationary period unless you previously completed the probationary period in the SES.* You must submit to a pre-employment drug test.QualificationsAs a basic requirement for entry into the SES, applicants must provide evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience that is indicative of senior executive level management capability and directly related to the skills and abilities outlined under the Technical Qualification(s) and Executive Core Qualifications listed below.
