Building Services Engineer (Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulics)

Full Time Position:  Salary Package $75,000 to $85,000 per annum

ESBS is a Canberra-based professional building services engineering design consultancy. Due to an increasing workload, we are looking to expand the team. We are seeking engineers having around 5 years of experience in the Field of Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulics.

We have a passion to deliver engineering excellence that adds value to our client's businesses. This has given us a loyal client base and a diverse portfolio of challenging and interesting projects that includes offices, water pumping stations, hospitals, prisons, schools, universities, archives facilities, courts, indoor swimming pools, libraries, and entertainment and leisure facilities.

We perform a range of consultancy services that include:

Mechanical and Electrical design, Hydraulics, Fire, Energy and Maintenance Management, Building Management Systems, Controls design, and systems optimisation.

The skillset we need from the M, E, H&F engineers include:

a.    Familiarity with, or possess technical knowledge of principles required for understanding the Australian National Construction Code NCC – Building Code of Australia and the Plumbing Code of Australia.

b.    Familiarity with or an ability to acquire an understanding of Australian Standards and Guides on

·    Mechanical: HVAC, chillers, boilers, pumps and pipework, fans and ductwork, controls/BMS.

·    Electrical: LV power and distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, communications, security & access.

·    Hydraulics- Water services- hot and cold. Stormwater and Sewage. Water conservation and recycling.

·    Fire Protection Systems- Hydrants, Hose Reels, Sprinklers, Fire Alarm, and Detection Systems.

c.    Design and draughting skills using relevant design and simulation software and draughting such as AutoCAD and Revit.

d.    An excellent understanding of MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project.

e.    Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team on Building Services projects, and a good appreciation of effective communication and coordination with associated engineering and disciplines.

Key attributes we are after:

a.    A tertiary qualified engineer, with a commitment to become a Chartered Professional Engineer.

b.    Someone passionately interested in engineering principles and design application, with a keenness to expand their knowledge with the goal of becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer, practising within the NER.

c.    Commitment to relocate to Canberra, Australia.

d.    Good communication skills in English for engaging with clients and contractors.

e.    A thorough understanding of engineering fundamentals and their application for design.

f.      A practical understanding of engineering, ideally with some hands-on experience at work or through personal interest projects.

g.    Someone who will commit time to research topics, including self-study and personal development to enhance their engineering knowledge related to relevant fields and projects.

h.    Physical and mental abilities to work in an office-type environment and to carry out site surveys and inspections including climbing ladders access systems to plant rooms and roofs.

i.      Driving skills to enable obtaining an Australian driving licence for a passenger car.

j.      Compliance with current Australian Guidelines on Covid prevention measures, including full vaccination.

e.    A salary package of $75,000 - $85,000 per annum depending on experience and abilities. Performance and salary reviews will occur at 3 months, 6 months and annually afterwards.

f.      Assistance towards obtaining a working visa and migration to Australia.
